Fiction at the Phoenix is back on Thursday, May 30th! The leaves and the grass have returned and it’s time once more to stockpile our summer reads for all the days ahead!
For the May edition of Fiction at the Phoenix, we’re thrilled to present Sydney Hegele and Erin Brubacher!
Sydney Hegele is the author of The Pump (Invisible Publishing 2021), winner of the 2022 ReLit Literary Award for Short Fiction and a finalist for the 2022 Trillium Book Award. Their essays have appeared in Catapult, Electric Literature, EVENT, and others. Their novel Bird Suit published on May 2 with Invisible Publishing, and their essay collection Bad Kids is forthcoming with Invisible in Fall 2025. They live with their husband and French Bulldog on Treaty 13 Land (Toronto, Canada).
Erin Brubacher is a multidisciplinary artist. She is driven by the desire to make meeting places: for her, art is a framework that serves to gather people who might not otherwise be in a room together.
EB is the author of the poetry collection, In the small hours (Gaspereau Press), the co-author of the hybrid book, 7th Cousins: An Automythography (Book*hug), and author of These Songs I Know By Heart, a new novel to be released May, 2024. She has been a participant in commissioning programs and artist residencies including the Banff Playwrights Lab (Canada) and LIFT’s Concept Touring (UK). She holds a practice based MA International Performance Research, with distinction, jointly from the University of Warwick and University of Amsterdam. She has lived in ten cities, and now makes Tkaronto her home.
