Poetry At The Phoenix returns for 2024 with a new roster of poetic talent!
Our poets for January: Manahil Bandukwala and Sonja Greckol!
Manahil Bandukwala is a poet and visual artist. She is the author of MONUMENT (Brick Books 2022), Women Wide Awake (Mawenzi House 2023), and many chapbooks. She enjoys working collaboratively, and in addition to Reth aur Reghistan, frequently collaborates with other writers, musicians, and artists in Canada. She holds an MA in English from the University of Waterloo.
Sonja Greckol lives in Tkaronto/Toronto and is grateful for subways and bike lanes wherever. She has published Monitoring Station (2023), No Line In Time (2018), Skein of Days (2014) and Gravity Matters (2008). Her work has appeared in Canadian and international journals. Her long poem 'No Line In Time' won the briarpatch Magazine, Winner Writing In The Margins Contest (2017) and No Line In Time was listed for the League of Canadian Poets, Raymond P. Souster Award, 2018. She is the founding poetry editor for Women and Environments International, has taught college and university, studied order and disorder in jokes, done human rights and gender-based research and local government activism. Her translation of Mexico City poet, Rosío Cerón’s ‘Trances’ is forthcoming in Jan 2025 Asymptote Journal.

Doors open at 7 PM, tickets are Pay What You Can at the door, no one turned away for lack of funds!
All funds raised will be split between the poets and the house.
